Czech Republic

Why visit the Czech Republic?

The land of emperors, Hussites and silver...
The Czech Republic is a small country, but certainly quintessentially European. As well as the capital, Prague – the ‘Golden City’, which boasts over a thousand years of history with its many medieval, Renaissance and Baroque buildings – the Czech Republic offers a wealth of old towns, imposing magnate residences, Gothic cathedrals, abbeys and medieval castles. The region was rich in fertile hills and deposits of silver, copper and precious stones, which were highly prized by monks and rulers alike.
A turning point in Czech history was the sermon delivered by Jan Hus and his subsequent condemnation to be burned at the stake at the Council of Constance in 1415. This led to prolonged religious wars in which the Protestant national movement clashed with the Catholic-Habsburg threat to national identity.
Our range of trips to the Czech Republic includes visits to Prague – the city of 100 spires – the majestic Karlštejn Castle, and UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Kroměříž, Lednice, Valtice, Třebíč and Zelená Hora.
