A land of majestic castles and rich history

Wrocław and Lower Silesia

Wrocław is one of the most picturesque cities in Poland. Situated in south-western Poland on the Oder and its tributaries, on 12 islands connected with each other and with the land by over a hundred bridges, Wrocław is often referred to as the Venice of Poland or the City of a Hundred Bridges. The history of the city has left it with no shortage of churches, museums and assorted oddities, all recorded in its walls. It's a Gothic city with an Old Town filled with Gothic churches, a cathedral, one of Poland’s largest market squares and magnificent Baroque monuments. Wrocław, with its youthful atmosphere, can definitely pride itself on being one of the most beautiful cities of Central Europe.

Wrocław is the capital city of Lower Silesia, a region located on the border with Germany and the Czech Republic. Given its location, it has been under several influences: Polish, Czech, Habsburg and German, which is visible while travelling there. It's full of charming cities and towns, some of them being the oldest towns in the whole country. One of them is Świdnica, home to the Church of Peace, which is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Probably the most prominent trait of Lower Silesia is its high number of beautiful castles and palaces, the most popular being Książ Castle, which is the third-largest castle in Poland. However, cities and monuments are not all that there is to Lower Silesia, as the nature there is also breathtaking, with a few mountain ranges, waterfalls and lakes.
