Kashubian Switzerland is characterised by a gently rolling landscape of dense forests and glittering lakes approximately 40 kilometres south-west of Gdansk. With hills rising to around 200 metres and roughly 250 lakes connected by rivers and canals, it forms part of one of Poland’s largest continuous forest areas. The waterways also offer excellent opportunities for longer canoeing and kayaking trips.
The journey begins in Gdansk and continues to Kartuzy, the capital of Kashubian Switzerland. Attractions include the fourteenth-century Carthusian monastery, a picturesque market square lined with historic town houses and the Kashubian Museum. Nearby rises Wieżyca, the highest point of the Baltic moraine ridge at 331 metres.
Continue to Wdzydze Kiszewskie, where the open-air museum presents historic Kashubian wooden houses and regional traditions. On the return journey, visit Chmielno and the famous Necel pottery, where tradition and craftsmanship remain alive.
