The Auschwitz Museum extends over several hundred hectares and preserves a vast range of unique evidence from the past: from original prisoner barracks and the ruins of gas chambers and crematoria to technical installations that kept the camp operating, railway tracks and guardhouses. Thousands of fence posts that once held barbed wire also tell the story, as do tens of thousands of victims’ personal belongings, including Zyklon B containers, documents, photographs and even human hair, all of which make the scale of the crime impossible to forget.
