One of the most impressive concert venues in Krakow and the surrounding area lies 101 metres underground, carved into fascinating layers of rock salt. This unique space has a floor, intricately carved walls, majestic vaults, an altar and glittering chandeliers made entirely of salt.
St Kinga’s Chapel is 54 metres long, 18 metres wide and approximately 12 metres high. Its architecture resembles a venerable underground church rather than an ordinary chapel, giving the space an exceptional atmosphere.
Its excellent acoustics make the chapel a remarkable musical setting. Regular concerts are rare because permission is difficult to obtain, but visitors to the salt mine can occasionally enjoy spontaneous short performances by choirs. These are invariably greeted with enthusiasm and applause and become an unforgettable highlight of the tour.
