School Trip to Warsaw

Warsaw is one of Central Europe’s fastest-growing capitals. Rising from the devastation of the Second World War, it has transformed into the political, cultural, and economic heart of Poland. The city bears witness to pivotal moments in European history, including the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943 and the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, whose legacy continues to shape its identity.
Our school trip to Warsaw explores the history, culture, and present-day life of Poland through the history of its capital. Particular emphasis is placed on the 20^th century. The programme is complemented by visits the vibrant Praga district, the Copernicus Science Centre. A highlight of the itinerary is the award-winning Warsaw Uprising Museum, which offers a powerful insight into the events of 1944. Students also learn about the heroic resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto, the humanitarian work of Dr. Janusz Korczak, and the remarkable story of Jan and Antonina Żabiński, who sheltered Jewish refugees on the grounds of the Warsaw Zoo during the German occupation. Alongside its rich history, Warsaw is a vibrant and forward-looking metropolis. A guided bike tour provides an excellent opportunity to discover the city’s modern districts, green spaces, and dynamic urban atmosphere.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Morning: Arrival in Warsaw and check-in at the accommodation. Lunch.
Afternoon: The afternoon begins with a walk through the UNESCO-listed historic centre of the Polish capital. Warsaw’s Old Town stands as a remarkable example of post-war reconstruction, faithfully restored after its destruction during the Second World War. Highlights include the Market Square, St. John’s Cathedral, Castle Square, and the reconstructed Royal Castle. The tour concludes with a visit to the viewing platform on the 30^th floor of the Palace of Culture and Science, offering spectacular panoramic views over the city.
Evening: Dinner.

Day 2: Warsaw During the Second World War: The Ghetto and the Warsaw Uprising

Morning: The day begins with a guided tour of the former Warsaw Ghetto, the site of the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The programme continues with a visit to the award-winning POLIN Museum, offering a compelling insight into the history and culture of Polish Jews.
Afternoon: The afternoon includes a visit to the former Janusz Korczak Orphanage and its exhibition. Alternatively, the programme may include the Żabiński Villa at Warsaw Zoo, where Jan and Antonina Żabiński sheltered around 200 Jews during the German occupation. Afterwards, time at leisure.
Evening: Dinner.

Day 3: Bike Tour & the Praga District

Morning: A bicycle tour along the picturesque Vistula reveals Warsaw’s hidden corners and lesser-known sights. The route continues to Praga, a former working-class district now known for its unique ambience and vibrant artistic scene.
Afternoon: Lunch break. Afterwards, a visit to an art gallery or social project that will offer insights into the district’s contemporary cultural landscape.
Evening: Dinner.

Day 4: Copernicus Science Centre

Morning: The day begins with a visit to the Copernicus Science Centre, where interactive exhibits and hands-on experiments bring the laws of nature to life in an engaging way.
Afternoon: Lunch break and time at leisure.
Optional: Bowling or karaoke night.
Evening: Dinner.

Day 5: Warsaw – Return Journey

Morning: After check-out, the return journey begins.
