Gietrzwałd is a small village in the Warmia region, south of Gdańsk, famous for the Marian apparitions which took place there in 1877. The Virgin Mary appeared to two young girls, Justyna Szafryńska and Barbara Samulowska, 160 times between June and September 1877. Mary spoke to the girls in Polish, specifically using the Warmian dialect. On 16 September 1877, a chapel was erected on the site of the apparitions, which still stands today. The centrepiece of the sanctuary in Gietrzwałd is the Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The apparitions in Gietrzwałd are the only officially recognized Marian apparitions in Poland by the Catholic Church, which places this village in the same category as Lourdes, Fatima, and La Salette. During this trip, pilgrims will also have the opportunity to pray in the Święta Lipka Marian sanctuary. This pilgrimage is completed by visits to the most remarkable sites in the Warmia and Masuria region, including Frombork, famously known as the place where Nicolaus Copernicus lived, worked, and wrote his revolutionary astronomical masterpiece, and Lidzbark Warmiński with its impressive Bishop’s Palace.

Afternoon: Arrival at Gdańsk Airport. Welcome at the airport by our tour guide. Transfer by coach
to a dinner in a restaurant near the airport.
Evening: Transfer by coach to Gietrzwałd (2-hour drive). Check-in at the retreat house. Dinner.
Morning: Meeting with our tour guide. Guided tour of the sanctuary: the Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the miraculous image of our Lady of Gietrzwałd, the Chapel of the Apparitions, the Rosary oath with its chapels, and the blessed spring.
Afternoon: Transfer to Olsztyn. The Old Town, the Olsztyn Castle with its Nicolaus Copernicus connection, Co-Cathedral Basilica of St. James. Holy mass in Gietrzwałd or in Olsztyn. Return to Gietrzwałd.
Evening: Dinner.
Morning: Meeting with our tour guide. Coach journey to Saint Lipka, the Jesuits’ Baroque Marian shrine, renowned for its organ featuring moving figures. Visit to the shrine, the museum – which houses part of John Paul II’s personal library – and an exhibition on the history of the Jesuit Order. A concert featuring the organ. Holy Mass.
Afternoon: Transfer to Lidzbark Warmiński, a town that was once the capital of Warmia and its religious and cultural centre. Walking tour of the town and a visit to the Bishop’s Palace of Warmia. Followed by a coach journey to Frombork. Check-in at the hotel.
Evening: Dinner.
Morning: Meeting with our tour guide. Guided tour of Frombork: visit to the Cathedral Hill, where Nicolaus Copernicus lived, worked and is buried. Tour of the cathedral and the Radziejowski Tower. Holy Mass.
Afternoon: Coach transfer to Gdańsk. Check-in at the hotel followed by a guided tour of Gdańsk’s Old Town. The route highlights the historic city centre: Old Town, rebuilt after the destruction of the Second World War, featuring buildings dating back to the 11th century, the Town Hall, Artus Cour, the old harbour facilities, the Gothic St Mary’s Church – the largest brick building in Europe – and St Brigid’s Church (including a tour).
Evening: Dinner.
Morning: Transfer to Oliwa Cathedral, famous for its Baroque organ. Holy Mass.
Afternoon: Transfer to the airport. Return journey.
