The journey leads from Gdansk via lively Sopot to idyllic Krokowa. The historic estate belonged largely to the von Krockow family until the Second World War. Originally built in the fourteenth century and later redesigned in the Baroque style, the palace was used by an agricultural cooperative after the war and gradually deteriorated. In 1990, descendants of the family returned, and with support from the municipality and the Federal Republic of Germany the property was carefully restored. It now houses the Kashubian European Encounters Centre. A visit to the regional museum presents the eventful history of the family and palace.
Continue to Łeba, a gateway to Słowiński National Park. The unique region has wide sandy beaches, ancient forests and an impressive coastal lake. Its greatest attraction is Europe’s largest area of moving dunes. The highest dune near the sea reaches 42 metres, while the largest covers around 300 hectares. The dunes move approximately ten metres each year, gradually covering meadows and forests and creating a remarkable landscape reminiscent of a small Sahara on the Polish coast. The picturesque village of Kluki on Lake Łebsko also has an open-air museum preserving the culture of the Slovincians. Enjoy a refreshing walk along the Baltic beaches before returning to Gdansk.
