Discover a beautiful and extensive English-style landscape park filled with eighteenth-century architectural monuments. This green oasis in the heart of Warsaw is a favourite place for walks and relaxation. It was created on the initiative of Poland's last king, Stanisław August Poniatowski, who commissioned leading architects, sculptors and painters of his time.
The design was developed by Johann Christian Schuch of Dresden, one of the leading landscape architects of the period. The park's best-known building is the Neoclassical Palace on the Isle, developed from an earlier bathing pavilion, which gave Łazienki, meaning "baths", its name.
The park also contains Warsaw's famous Art Nouveau monument to Fryderyk Chopin. Destroyed during the Second World War and reconstructed after the war, it is now both a work of art and a cultural meeting place. Open-air Chopin concerts are held nearby on summer Sundays.
