Continue to charming Piaskowa Street. On the opposite side stands the historic façade of the Market Hall. Behind its traditional exterior is an engineering achievement: reinforced-concrete parabolic arches that give the vast interior an unexpected lightness. Designed by Richard Plüddemann and Friedrich August Küster and built between 1906 and 1908, the hall marks the beginning of modernist architecture in Wroclaw.
Turn left towards the clearly visible Sand Bridge. A bridge at this location was first mentioned in the mid-twelfth century, making it the oldest surviving bridge site in Wroclaw. It formed part of the historic Amber Route between the Adriatic and Baltic seas. The present structure dates from 1861 and is the oldest surviving steel bridge in Wroclaw, an important monument to engineering and urban history.
